British Weird, mini review

Last year I was #gifted these gorgeous copies of British Weird & Women’s Weird 2 by the lovely people at @handheldpress.

I cannot recommend these collections enough! I’ve spoken about them before but they’re just so wonderful I can’t help but share them again!

British Weird, Selected Short Fiction (1893-1937) edited by James Machin is a brilliant collection of all things weird! Authors such as Algernon Blackwood, Arthur Machen, Eleanor Scott, Mary Butts and many more are included in this spooky collection of stories. Ghosts, nightmares, things that can’t be explained and more strange goings on are explored, making you Ellen your eyes to the world of the weird…

Women’s Weird 2, More Strange Stories by Women (1891-1937), edited by Melissa Edmundson is a brilliant collection dedicated to exploring weird fiction written by women. Authors include Majorie Bowen, Barbara Baynton, Sarah Orne Jewett, Helen Simpson, and many more. This unique collection focuses on the strange, the gothic, and the terrifying.

From bizarre buildings, dark forests, unusual roads and frightening folk, these tales lead you further into the mystery of the weird…Both of these books are available on @handheldpress website! They both include a wide variety of inclusive stories which gives you a deep overview of the genre’s best stories. Check out their other books on their website too!
